Event Safety & Risk Management

Waimakariri Riding Club (WRC) is committed to providing a safe environment for riders, horses, volunteers, officials, and spectators at all club activities and events.

To support this commitment, WRC maintains a range of policies, procedures, systems, and documentation that are regularly reviewed and communicated to members.

Communication

Health and safety information is regularly communicated through:

• Club rallies and events

• AGM and general meetings

• Event briefings

• Club communications and newsletters

• The WRC website

Participants are regularly reminded of the location and contents of first aid equipment and emergency procedures.

Event Documentation

The following documents are maintained by WRC and are available to participants:

• Club Indemnity Statement

• Health & Safety Policy

• Horse Welfare Policy

• Event Risk Assessment and Emergency Response Plan

• Concussion Screening Information

These documents are available through event information, at the Secretary’s office during events, and on the WRC website.

First Aid

A designated First Aider will be appointed for each WRC event.

WRC maintains records of members and volunteers who hold current first aid qualifications. All WRC coaches hold first aid qualifications.

A first aid kit is available at all WRC events and activities.

Event Leadership

An Event Lead will be appointed for each event and their details will be communicated to participants.

The Event Lead is responsible for overseeing safety management during the event and coordinating responses to incidents if required.

Venue Requirements

All WRC events are conducted in accordance with the health and safety requirements of the host venue.

Participants must comply with any venue-specific requirements, including vehicle movement procedures, parking arrangements, horse access areas, and designated competition or practice zones.

Continuous Improvement

WRC reviews its policies, procedures, risk assessments, and safety systems regularly to support the ongoing safety and wellbeing of riders, horses, volunteers, and spectators.
