The Waimakariri Riding Club is a group of likeminded horse owners who have a shared vision to support the ongoing development of riding skills in the community.
The club grew out of a need for coaching and education of riders as many of our members are mature riders, often returning to horse ownership after a gap. We believe coaching and education is the major ingredient in the equation that leads to safe and positive experiences and to improve confidence. As a Riding Club we are dedicated to seeing riding standards continue to grow across our equestrian community.
How are we different?
We bring in qualified coaches across different disciplines and provide a fun and safe environment to facilitate coaching and learning in a supportive community environment.
As an incorporated society, we are a well-structured organisation governed first and foremost by ensuring health and safety of participants and the welfare of their horses. We encourage members to have their say about the education they want and need and to support one another with shared knowledge and goals.
Gwen Gilmore with favourite horse Cruz. Gwen supports the committee by leading meetings, developing projects and backing up the various committe roles.
Hess Vertogen's role is to develop the rallies and events. Hess trains and competes in dressage and also runs a marketing business. She loves seeing our members and their horses develop in their riding journeys.
Elly Thomson. Another return to riding mum with a small person in preschool. Elly also supports her husbands business interests. Great to have you on board Elly!
Hi, I’m Monica Rietveld – I love being part of a friendly, supportive equestrian community (especially when we get to ride at the beach!).
Karin Newport with her 2 horses Vinnie and George. Outside of horses, Karin has a background in software development and business, and she looks forward to using those skills to support the club and its members.
Karen Shaw on Dancing Daisy, living the dream of hacking and learning all things horsey related. Paddock Paradise horse keeping is my main passion with my herd of 3.
