WRC had a fun and educative time illustrating how to both ride safely and support motorists to "Pass Wide and Slow day". One of nearly 50 rides across New Zealand this weekend and 248 rides worldwide! 15 horses, 2 walkers and a photographer took to the 6km West Eyreton block from Maindonalds road, School Road, North Eyre road and Pesters Road in small groups.

Working on the principle that riding in small groups gives more chance for horses to settle and riders to chat we wore our high viz and set off. Most motorists were respectful and slowed down. However, two motorists were unaware of the message. The first one passed the group at over 80km/hour and when one rider visibly objected he stopped, backed up and proceeded to have an argument! His number plate has been taken and reported. The second one was a supermarket delivery driver. She clearly didn't know the rules and said so when she stopped. I will be going to visit all supermarket managers and speaking to driver managers! s

Members are distributing leaflets at supermarkets and workplaces this week as well as getting people to sign the vulnerable road users petition. If you haven't signed the petition please do so https://petitions.parliament.nz/7903bbe1-bef3-4a14-3e6e-08dca632fe79
